Christian missionary goes to another planet?  Sold.

Why This Book?

This book has been making the rounds on BookTube.  I first heard about this piece on Jen Campbell’s YouTube Channel.  She mentions it in several videos, and her enthusiasm for the story sold me on it.

Spoiler Free:  What the Heck is This Book About?

Peter is a Christian missionary who has been chosen to go to another planet to preach the gospels of Jesus to the native residents of the planet.  These aliens are referred to as Oasans.

Leaving his wife and cat behind, he journeys with a group of exceptional people who all work for the same company, USIC.

While Peter is away preaching the word, Earth is changing at a rapid pace, and he is only kept abreast to these changes via a special means of communication to his wife.

Peter is torn beautiful his love of his wife and his love of ministering leaving him unsure of if he should stay with the Oasans or return to Earth to be with his wife.

Thoughts?

When I first started reading this book, I thought it was going to be pure entertainment.  I did not expect it to make me think the way it did.  I certainly did not expect it to secretly slap me with depth.

Like It?

I absolutely love this book.  I got it from the local library, and after reading it, I bought a hard copy of my own to love and cherish.

I look forward to reading more Michel Faber work in the future.
