THE COLD DISH

Yep.

Why This Book?

I had discovered Longmire on Netflix not too long ago.  It reminded me a lot of my boss or, rather, it reminded me some of something he would be interested in watching.  Immediately, I recommended it to him, and without skipping a beat, he said, “I’ve read all of those books.”

I had no idea the series was based on Sherlock Holmes-ish mystery novels but was immediately sold on reading them.

Spoiler Free:  What the Heck is This Book About?

Our story begins with a young man found dead in Absaroka County, Wyoming.   This young man is not a random boy to Sheriff Walt Longmire. He is a familiar face from a rape case he worked previously.

As we read more about the shooting we along with Walt have to figure out if this is a random hunting accident or a revenge killing for what this young man and three others did to Melissa Real Bird.

While this book is centered around two dark cases (murder and rape), we also get to know the people of Absaroka County, and this adds a lightness to this a dark, heavy story.

Thoughts?

I am not very good with series in general.  I like the idea of serialized fiction and series in general, but I have not committed to a series since high school.

While this series completely wet my appetite for more Walt stories, I will not be tearing into these novels one right after the other, but only because there are so many!

I do not want to binge read these books.  I was to enjoy them and read them when I can give them my full attention.  I am working on reading one a month for the time being.

Like It?

Love.  I greatly enjoy all of the characters.  Every person that has been introduced has been highly entertaining and captivating.
